Shipping Rice from Pakistan: Containers, Documents and Ports

Updated October 25, 2026 · admin

Containers

Rice is exported in 20ft and 40ft containers. Because rice is heavy, many shippers use 20ft or a 40ft with careful weight planning. Containers must be clean, dry and odour-free, with liners if the buyer asks.

Documents

  • Commercial invoice and packing list
  • Phytosanitary certificate
  • Certificate of origin where required
  • Export GD and bill of lading
  • Quality or fumigation certificate if the buyer asks

Ports and timing

Most rice leaves from Karachi Port or Port Qasim. Plan the container delivery to the mill or godown, loading, customs and gate-in so the cargo makes the cut-off.

Common issues

  • Moisture damage from poor containers or condensation
  • Missing phytosanitary certificate
  • Overweight containers
